The ADB–Japan Scholarship Program admits approximately 135 students each year to universities in nine countries, such as Hong Kong, India, Japan, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States. Graduates are anticipated to aid in the development of their home nations post-graduation.

This scholarship is entirely funded, and recipients will have the opportunity to enroll in a master’s degree program. ADB–Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must be citizens of a country that is a borrowing member of ADB and qualified for ODA from Japan.
- Applicants cannot possess dual citizenship in any developed nation.
- Applicants for this scholarship need to have been accepted into a specified institution for a master’s program.
- Applicants need to possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, along with an outstanding academic performance.
- Applicants should possess a minimum of two years of professional work experience.
- Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English (in both written and spoken forms).
- This scholarship is available to applicants who are below 35 years old at the time of applying (with some exceptions).
- Applicants should be in excellent health.
- Candidates are required to commit to returning to their home country for a minimum of two years post-graduation.
- Applicants should not be ADB personnel, relatives of ADB personnel, or employed in institutions designated by ADB.
- Applicants must not be presently registered in another graduate degree program.
- Applicants must not reside or be employed outside their home country when applying.
How to Apply
- Obtain application forms and details from your chosen ADB-partner university.
- Fill out the necessary documents, which consist of the ADB-JSP Information Sheet.
- Deliver the documents straight to the selected university.
- The university will evaluate your application and send the selected candidates to ADB.
- ADB assesses applications and suggests recipients to the Government of Japan.
- The ADB announces the chosen scholars and informs them via the host university.
