What is the recommendation letter?
An honest recommendation describes your interactions with the candidate from a first-person perspective. The candidate’s behavior and performance in a professional setting should be known to you. Before agreeing to a request for a recommendation, think about the following:
- Has the applicant been an employee or someone you’ve watched closely?
- Under my direction, what tasks did this individual complete?
- Is there anything you can say about your abilities and skills that is pertinent?
- Can you provide concrete samples of the person’s previous work?
- Do you have any good things to say about this person?
- Inform the applicant politely and promptly if you are unable to meet their request because you lack sufficient experience with complimentary remarks to give about them.
- The applicant will have enough time to come up with a different answer.
Five things should be included in your recommendation letter:
- Identify yourself, your connection to the candidate, and your relevant work experience in a short introduction.
- An outline of the applicant’s strong points based on your own experience and how they connect to the position being filled.
- A narrative about the applicant’s life that focuses on one or two positive qualities.
- A final paragraph outlining all the reasons why the person you’re endorsing is perfect for the position.
- A legal document that bears your name and provides your contact details.
- Make sure you have all the necessary materials, such as the most recent résumé and job description, before you approach the applicant for a reference.
- You may have a better understanding of their background and accomplishments by perusing their résumé.
- read the posting carefully to get a feel for the skills and experience needed for the position.
- Using it as a guide, you may highlight their relevant experience and skills on their CV.
